Introduction to Master's Degree Programs of School of Mathematics and Statistics

0701 Mathematics (Primary level)

The first-level master's degree in mathematics includes four second-level disciplines: basic mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics. Fundamental Mathematics was granted the right to grant a master’s degree in 2001, relying on key disciplines in Zhejiang and Ningbo, with a basic mathematics research institute; Institute of Mathematics and Nonlinear Science Research Center. In 2018, the subject of mathematics was awarded a first-level doctoral degree by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Mathematics is a key discipline in Zhejiang Province and a first-class discipline in Ningbo. Mathematics and applied mathematics is a dominant discipline in Zhejiang Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and a key discipline in Ningbo.


The discipline currently has 20 doctoral supervisors, 12 professors, 29 master supervisors, and 29 associate professors, including 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 winners of the New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, and enjoy the special government of the State Council 1 allowance expert, 1 national outstanding teacher, 2 winners of Zhejiang Outstanding Youth Fund and 3 Zhejiang 151 talents. In recent years, the discipline has formed stable research directions in basic mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, especially in mathematical physics, fractal geometry, differential geometry, number theory, combinatorics, nonlinear partial differential equations, A batch of high-level research results have been completed in the fields of stochastic differential equations, nonlinear waves, geometric measurement theory, computational fluids, algebra and cryptography, and published in Adv.Math., Comm.Math.Phys., Arch.Ration.Mech .Anal., Trans.Amer.Math.Soc., J.Funct.Anal., Proc.R.Soc.Lond.Ser.A, Math.Z., Nonlinearity and J.Math.PureAppl.and other internationally renowned journals . In the past five years, he presided over 1 National Natural Science Foundation key project and multiple general projects, participated in 1 National Natural Science Foundation key project, and published 12 ESI highly cited papers.


01 Basic Mathematics


Basic mathematics is the traditional dominant direction of the mathematics discipline of Ningbo University, covering the main research directions of number theory, algebra, differential geometry, mathematical physics and analysis. Disciplinary members have completed a series of internationally influential academic achievements in the fields of mathematical physics, differential geometry, fractal geometry, number theory, algebraic groups and representation theory, nonlinear analysis, and partial differential equations, which were published in JDG, Adv.Math., Trans. Amer.Math.Soc., Math.Z., J.Number Theory and JDE and other internationally renowned journals. Discipline leaders and members have been invited to give academic reports at important domestic and foreign academic conferences many times, and their research results have been widely concerned and cited by domestic and foreign counterparts. Graduate students trained in the past 5 years have published more than 30 SCI papers.


02 Applied Mathematics


This direction is mainly engaged in the modeling, analysis, integrability, symmetry and applications of nonlinear systems in the fields of water waves, physics, oceans, finance and optics. It has formed a reasonable structure and includes many outstanding young and middle-aged teachers. The research team has completed a series of high-level work on nonlinear waves and their applications, nonlinear integrable systems, symmetry of nonlinear systems, and application of partial differential equations. Calc.PDEs and other journals have published many high-quality papers, which have received the attention and universal citation of domestic and foreign counterparts. This direction is also committed to conducting interdisciplinary research, developing mathematical methods to solve related practical problems such as mathematical problems in marine disasters, and serving local economic construction. Graduate students trained in the past 5 years have published more than 40 SCI papers.


03 Computational Mathematics


Computational mathematics is the characteristic direction of the mathematics discipline of Ningbo University. It is mainly engaged in the modeling and calculation of nonlinear systems, computational fluid dynamics, numerical optimization and its application in information science, numerical algebra and cryptography, combinatorial optimization and algorithms, combinatorial design , Symbolic calculation and computational geometry research. In recent years, some valuable results have been completed and published in CAGD, IEEETIT, Proc.R.Soc.Lond.Ser.A, J.Math.ImagingVision, Lett.Math.Phys., Comm.Comput.Phys., etc. Famous journals. Subject leaders and academic backbones have been invited to give lectures at important academic conferences and many famous universities at home and abroad for many times.


04 Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics


This direction is mainly engaged in the research of stochastic analysis, geometric measurement theory, financial mathematics, insurance actuarial and stochastic control theory and application, and has formed a high-level subject team consisting of many outstanding young and middle-aged teachers. Completed a series of innovative results in geometric measurement theory, stochastic analysis, stochastic differential equations, financial mathematics, large deviation principle and maximum principle, insurance actuarial, optimal investment and derivative pricing theory, etc., published in JFA, Anals of Oper. Research., Nonlinearity, J. Theor. Prob., IME and other international mainstream journals.
